New national standards for tenant empowerment will soon require all housing associations to be accountable to tenants, with local 'deals' enabling tenants to set local priorities and monitor landlord performance.
Housing associations can prepare now for the new system by entering into agreements delegating control over appropriate budgets to tenant groups, where tenants wish. Grounds maintenance, repairs, communal services and local housing management are among the services that tenants might like more control over.
We can help you ensure that tenant groups understand their choices and have 'fit for purpose' local organisation. We can also advise on suitable agreements and the impact of VAT and EU rules on the choices avaialable for tenants and landlords.
