What is right for Residents?

Do you want to get more control over what’s happening in your neighbourhood? Does this include more control over services from a ‘social landlord’ such as a council or a housing association? Do you have a residents group that includes tenants or leaseholders of the landlord?

The Tenant Empowerment Programme can help you set up your own community-run organisation to control some of the services from your landlord. This includes things like repairing homes, looking after open spaces and caretaking, and the way homes are managed.

The National Federation of TMOs gives advice and is offering FREE SEMINARS if you want to look at this further (see the attached brochure for more).

Once you do decide that tenant control may be the right answer for you, then you can look into GRANTS from the Tenant Service Authority. First talk to your landlord about the options for local control. If your landlord is the council then they have (by law) to give you advice and support to help you get control of housing. Housing associations are a bit different legally, but still have to consult tenants and will soon be expected to make local ‘deals’ about how homes and neighbourhoods are managed.

If your landlord is willing to give support, use the Pre-Application Questionnaire (click on the right of this page) to ask the Tenant Services Authority for initial help through the Tenant Empowerment Programme.
